When setting up your ad in Atlas, it is critical in the process to assign the ad and campaign to your site. If these steps are missed and your site has not been assigned and creative not associated with your account number, other publications will have access to your client information.  Here are the necessary steps to properly assigning your site: When creating your Advertiser profile, the last step in that phase will be ‘Site’. Here you will see ‘All Available Sites’ or ‘Selected Site Only’. Your paper name will appear under ‘Available Sites’. Check off ‘Selected Site Only’ and then click ‘Add’. Daypart Advertising - Staying Ahead of the Curve

7/6/09 3:53 PM

At conferences for years we have talked about the parallels in web advertising and television advertising with regards to the sales pitch and the way to approach the inventory. TV has a finite amount of commercial time (8 minutes every half hour) and a prime time that can be assigned a higher premium. So does the web - you just have be more direct with your advertisers and define that prime time and your inventory to drive up those premiums. Knowing your audience is the key to making the sale.  For instance, knowing that students engage online late at night could be helpful in pitching late night delivery places on campus for the web site.  Atlas can deliver all ads during specified hours of the night to increase that bang for the buck.  Since we launched the... 2 comments

Optimizing Your Ad Space: 2 Ads, 1 Spot

6/17/09 7:10 PM

One of our partners experimented on placing two of their ads in one ad space.  The LSU Reveille was fortunate enough to have 2 advertisers that were interested in the top spot, but only one needed an actual click-thru URL to the ad placement. To accomplish this they took those 2 images and combined them into one using Photoshop.  They placed those 2 images side by side while adhering to the size parameters to meet Atlas’ requirements for the 468x60 ad spot.  Turned out to be a win-win-win solution for the newspaper and the advertisers since the newspaper turned an ad spot into 2 tiles ads and the advertisers got the branding and banner ad they desired at the top of the site. If you have any advertisers who don’t have websites, this might be a lucrative... 1 comment

How can I prioritize one ad over all of the others?

If you have a campaign come in that is short on time and needs to deliver a high amount of impressions, there is a setting to make it serve over all other ads. Begin by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath the ‘Campaign’ heading. From here enter your advertiser and campaign name. Click ‘Next’. Now that you are able to make edits, do the following: Scroll midway down the page. On the left hand side of the page, look for the ‘Choose a View’ window. In that window pane, locate the ‘Flags’ option and click. Beneath the ‘Available’ heading you will find an option stating ‘Keep at highest priority’. Highlight this option by clicking once and then click the ‘Add’ button. You will now... 3 comments

Running Out of Inventory

6/17/09 5:37 PM

Sometimes competing campaigns in the same ad unit can prevent ads showing up.  You have to be careful about how many impressions are committed to each campaign and over what time period to avoid this problem.  To check on this, you will need to request a custom report to get a snapshot of what is running in your inventory.  To do this, email support@collegepublisher.com with the subject heading “Request Inventory Report”.  In the email body identify yourself and your paper (with account number if possible). The spreadsheet that will be emailed to you, will include: a listing of all campaigns running impressions served to date average impressions per campaign per day clicks per campaign average clicks per day how many... 1 comment
