Saving Soundslides to CP5

Making the most of audio-enriched photo slideshows in CP5

Soundslides presentations can be easily added to the CP5 system using the Soundslides object. The object is specifically designed to handle the export files Soundslides creates.

Note: In order to use this feature, you first must Zip (Apple OS: "Archive") your "Publish_To_Web" folder that Soundslides outputs.

  • On an Apple, right-click/option-click the folder and select "Create Archive ..."
  • On a PC, right-click the folder and select "Send to ... > Compressed (zipped) folder ..."

To upload a Soundslides presentations to your CP5 system follow these instructions and refer to the image gallery at right for more help:

  1. Log in to your CP5 administration area and navigate to the page where you want to add the presentation. Select an area to create a new object, select "Soundslides" as an object from the downdown menu and then hit the "Create" button.
  2. Click the "Create new slideshow" button on the resulting tab.
  3. Complete the information text boxes on the new tab, including title, caption and copyright. Browse to and upload your new Zip file. The window will refresh with a long list of files uploaded from the Zip (see image step 4.)
  4. Browse to and upload your image to display when the show is not running. If no image is selected, a black box will appear until the show is started by the user.
  5. IMPORTANT: Select "Save and Insert" at the end of the tab, do not select "Save" as this will not insert the slideshow into the CP5 Soundslides player.
  6. On the resulting tab, click "Insert and View" to confirm the slideshow's placement in the CP5 Soundslides player.
  7. The original Soundslides tab will appear, now with the slideshow present. Complete the name of the Soundslides in the text box, pick your option for display (inline means embed in page,) and click the "Save" button. The Soundslide will embed within your page as part of that element. 

Things to consider when creating your presentation:

  • Captions and bylines matter - be sure to include the information in your presentation.
  • Complete your "Credits" information, and be sure to add a copyright for your paper.
  • Size your presentation to something close to your site's display width. Anything larger may break your design or may cause your photos to look squashed.
  • If you're lacking audio, talk with members of your college radio station and ask for highlights from their broadcasts. For example, the excitement - as heard on the radio - leading into a  touchdown mixed with the photos of the play that made it happen create a powerful multimedia experience.
